Cloverfield Screening

Update: as reviews trickle in, everybody complains about the battery life of the camera. How can it record all the events for so long, blah blah. It's not that long, it's as long as the movie, which any camcorder battery can do. It's all recorded in real time, there are no jumps in time and events unless the camera wasn't recording it, which means that the camera was off, which means no battery was used. Come on people!

--------

I obviously won't spoil anything until the official release, but I can tell you what I thought.

IT. WAS. AWESOME.

Plain and simple.

The pacing, the acting, the action, the FX, the sound (oh the sound!), etc. it was just really really good. Once it's out, I can elaborate, but one thing is very important: find a theater with top-notch sound, you won't regret it.

Peasant?!?!

Yeah it looks cool, it's been too long since there's been a good giant monster flick. And please tell me the shaky cam isn't used through the ENTIRE movie.

Yes it is, but after a few minutes you don't care about it anymore. And it's not THAT shaky, only when it needs to be (of course it won't be butter smooth when the run).

Saw it Friday .. and actually, I felt like I wanted to hurl through most of the movie. And I just didn't like it all that much. I guess I was hoping for something different. The sound was cool and creature looked cool and there were some great moments of tension, but I just felt very let down by it. Of course another guy on a site I frequent is treating me like I just didn't get the movie, but I got what it was and I just wasn't all that wowed by it.

Hahaha! I love the "you didn't get it" angle. That works for some high brow movies but with Cloverfield it's either you like that style or not, there's nothing to get.

I do think though you need help. But it's okay, they got doctors for your kind of decease.

:)

Saw the film today and I agree ... fan-freakin'-tastic. The movie camera didn't bother me ... maybe because I was drawn in by the story and the POV helped me empathize a little easier and forget I was in a theater. Maybe I've just seen too many terrible youtube clips as well ... used to it, in a way. =) Sound was awesome, btw ...
